Project Foundation

My goal for this project was to come away with a collection of skills and photographs that would serve as the foundation of my photography portfolio and career.

It all began with an idea that I needed to leave my happy home of Salt Lake City to learn what it felt like to be away on a professional assignment. I heard from many other outdoor photographers that in order to be successful in this field you must be comfortable with solo travel, but solo travel was something completely foreign and scary to me. With this advice in the forefront of my mind for months, I finally decided to set off on a solo 5 day test trip to Jackson, WY. My trial run was a success and a week after returning to Salt Lake I packed up my mid-sized SUV and headed north. This was the beginning of a journey that spanned 4000+ miles, 5 states, and 2 life-changing months.

3 Objectives

  • Building a Base Portfolio

At this time my aspirations of being a professional photographer began to come into focus. I knew it was time to create a body of work that would effectively demonstrate my passion and skill in landscape photography.

  • Comfort in Traveling Alone

Is this outdoor adventure photography thing 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 for me? Maybe, maybe not. But I’ll never know unless go out and try.

  • Going on an Adventure

The Great Outdoors is where I belong, so if nothing else, this would be an opportunity to experience some of the most beautiful places that the United States has to offer.
